I refer to the article “Rubbish bins go ‘on strike’, students frustrated” published Sept. 8.

With regards to tackling the littering problem during the 'Say No to Waste' campaign, SAVE had student patrol teams roving around campus, who cleared any litter that they encountered. Therefore, we did not rely wholly on the cleaners, as your article implies.

However, the great interest that stemmed from reading your article was largely due to my disagreement with it.

Coverage of student death was not disrespectful

I refer to Elizabeth Lovinger's letter to The Campus Observer, dated March 5.

Lovinger accused TCO of "publishing hearsay about a student's death and including rumors about his medication." According to her, these actions were "both incredibly tasteless."

She went on to charge that such "disrespect shown to the deceased student and his friends by publishing a gossip article is entirely inexcusable."
